BACK TO SILAVADEE, FIVE YEARS ON

Whoever came up with the sweet idea of going back to our honeymoon island, I wanted to give them a prize the moment we arrived at Silavadee on Koh Samui, five years after our first visit. This time the resort hosted our stay in a pool villa, and the view past the pool was as unreasonable as I remembered.

The resort had been renovated in the meantime, and it was clearly still getting better. The spot where you eat breakfast with the sea right in front of you was especially pretty.

A view this persuasive so early in the morning is a problem, I thought, and then I had all of it to myself and went for a swim. Floating there in the quiet, I was genuinely happy. On other mornings I ran along the sea. In the running photos the blue behind me really is the water, and not one minute of that run was boring.

On our last day on Koh Samui, I decided to count time backward. From the moon to the sun, I spent the day ticking off the hours we had left.

Back home, I cut our strawberries-and-champagne hours into a video called "Sweet Hours at Silavadee," and somewhere in the editing I gave in and opened a bottle of champagne. At this rate the wine at home won't last, so I named myself a champagne ambassador. Under my latest Silavadee photo, I wrote: we were cute, and we'll keep being cute.
